Radio Free Alice – Rule 31

Melbourne new wave/post-punk band Radio Free Alice release “Rule 31”, marking the end of a UK and Ireland tour that culminated in a sold-out show at London’s Scala on November 26. The track was written on the road and recorded during a couple of days off at producer Peter Katis’s house-studio in Connecticut.

“Rule 31 came about during a soundcheck whilst on tour,” frontman Noah Learmonth explains. “The bassline came first and we just built it up from there.” Katis, known for his work with Interpol, The National, and Frightened Rabbit, captures the urgency of a band moving at breakneck pace.

The track opens with tension between clipped guitar lines and vocals, then builds into something more cohesive—each element joining to create a hopeful, yearning sound. Lyrically, Learmonth explores themes of change, growth, and distance.

Radio Free Alice’s rise has been rapid. When they arrived in the UK in late summer 2025, expectations were measured. But one show sold out, then another, until the quartet had six sold-out London headlines, each packed with crowd-surfing fans. One supporter even got a Radio Free Alice tattoo across his torso. Reading & Leeds Festival booked them a few weeks before the event to another massive turnout.

Radio Free Alice join Geese for their sold-out February tour of Australia, with festival appearances at Tramlines and Track Festival in July.
